If you are a millionaire and are looking to spend it on something that is the most beautiful creation on earth then the Ferrari Enzo is a must buy. Ok, so even for a used 2004 Enzo the cheapest you can purchase this car for is an eye watering ?750,000. Any supercar probably isn?t the most practical car in the world, for example you?d be struggling to drive the car in most European city centres. Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear team demonstrated this a few years again with Lamborghini, Porsche and Ferrari in Paris. Either the cars were designed too low to drive over speed bumps or the Ferrari in particular was too wide to go through some streets.

The Ferrari Enzo V12 engine was named after the founder of Ferrari hence why in some circles the supercar is named Enzo Ferrari. Formula One technology was behind the design of the Enzo which was launched in 2002. This is definitely apparent with the Enzo managing to achieve 0-60 mpg in just 3.3 seconds, 650bph and has a top speed of 220 mpg. The F1 technology certainly helped with this due to materials such as carbon fibre being used for the chassis and interior in addition to other high tech stuff.

The Enzo looks as if it has been designed by an artist rather than an engineer. The supercar is elegantly compact with the most beautiful lines running throughout the exterior particularly the unique design of the front bonnet. The ceramic gear stick compliments the interior magnificently and to be honest is probably worth a few thousand pounds on its own. The wheelbase stands at 104.3 inches, the length of the Enzo is 185.1 inches, width is 80.1 inches, height is 45.2 inches and the weight is only 3020 lbs. The ceramic discs and other lightweight material keep the weight of the car low.

When the Enzo was released it was given exceptional reviews. Several car magazines have named this supercar one of the best cars in the world and throughout the last decade. However there are rivals to compete with this mega supercar such as Pagini Zonda C12S, Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari 360 all of which are cheaper than the Ferrari Enzo. All of which are exceptional cars but it really depends on what you are purchasing the car for. Ultimately the reason is power, speed, luxury and excellent overall driving performance. Obviously the image of the supercar is important particularly when you are shelling out in some cases the same amount of money some people use to buy a house.

Overall the Enzo can be compared to a bottle of refined Chianti. It lets off a feisty personality and at first it is a menace to drive but as you get used to this wonderfully orchestrated car, although it gives you a thrill every time you drive it, it eventually turns into a smooth car to drive. Give it a chance and this car will be the most rewarding drive of your life.

Many moons ago, before I was old enough to really appreciate such things, I was a frequent passenger in a Porsche 911 Carrera Sport Targa. The school run, family shopping, day-trips to the coast, trying to convince my brother to stand up as we zipped along country lanes… all these seemingly mundane activities were accomplished in the sporty little car that blew a gigantic raspberry at the Audi Avant that served as our second car. Sure, it may not have been able to compete with the space and family function offered by the Audi, but my word it was fun to be in.

So I’m biased. I like Porsche. If I had the cash I would buy a different model for every day of the week, in a range of colours so I could cut a dash in a mobile mood ring. But that would be silly (think of the road tax alone, let alone chamois wear and tear, car wash costs, those little pine tree air fresheners…). One is probably enough, maybe two at a push if you’re not the only driver in your household and you both have a yen for prestigious manufacturing.

If you’re starting to consider the merits of Porsche, your research will probably lead you in the direction of the used Porsche market. The majority of people start off their driving career with a second hand car. A used Porsche is a promotion to Senior Management. Certainly there are other brands out there that have an equally impressive reputation, but the likelihood is that if you’re a Porsche fan, you won’t even have eyes for anything else. The thriving second hand market means that a used Porsche is an option that can be seriously considered by anyone looking to invest in a vehicle that is an instantly recognisable status symbol.

Personally I’m a fan of the Cabriolet form. There’s something, for me at least, a little claustrophobic about being so close to the road whilst enclosed on all sides. With this personal oddity in mind I took charge of a used Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet for a short time in order to test whether my memories would live up to the real thing.

Call me old-fashioned, but for whatever reason I prefer the looks of the older Carrera. The modern version is a sleeker, more futuristic revamp of the classic model, but there’s something about the slightly chunky bodywork of the old 911 Carrera that just looks right. But after slipping into the driving seat I was willing to give the newcomer a chance. As you would expect from a Porsche, the interior is nothing short of sumptuous. The smooth transition from static to mobile offered a pleasing level of handling that continued throughout the drive. I opted to stick to the quiet country back roads, going roofless as soon as found the first hedgerows.

Wouldn’t you know, it was quite a pleasant experience. I would certainly recommend test driving your used Porsche of choice before setting your heart on buying it, but the used Carrera performed as admirably as one would expect from such a brand pedigree. I was a little reluctant to return it, because despite my misgivings it gave a charming ride.

A used Porsche might fit the bill if you’re looking to expand your horizons and invest in a brand that has an excellent reputation. As with any used car it would be prudent to visit an approved used Porsche dealership, where you will often be covered by a warranty that takes away the worry of things going wrong as soon as you arrive home in your new used Porsche.

For those of you wondering, you’ll be glad to know that I don’t think I ever did manage to convince my brother to stand up in the 911 whilst moving.

It is not a secret that cars are chosen by their owners for certain reasons. For the simple man, the reason may be because of the vehicle’s safety, fuel efficiency, or reliability. But for top level executives of large companies who can afford just about any vehicle, it is more about showing off a bit of themselves. A survey conducted by TheLadder.com showed that the majority of polled respondents who are C-level executives said that their vehicles say something about themselves.

Nearly 3,000 individuals responded in the study. Of that number, 116 individuals are C-level executives. The study found out that 76 percent of those top level executives said that their vehicles say something about them. Seven percent of the C-level executives’ respondents said that they intentionally try to hide their vehicles from co-workers. Five percent of them also said that they time their departure at the end of the day so that a lot of their co-workers will have a glimpse as to what they drove. It only shows that CEOs have different approaches in flaunting their vehicles.

A similar study also found out that BMW vehicles are popular among top level executives. USA Today’s study showed that 13 percent of the CEOs they have surveyed are driving BMW models with its reliable auto parts like BMW 325 radiators. Mercedes-Benz units come a close second with 12 percent. Surprisingly, ten percent of the polled CEOs said that they drive a Toyota which is more than the 7 percent who drive a Porsche.

Different CEOs though prefer different vehicles. There are those who prefer expensive cars. Neil Gaydon of Pace Micro Technology drives a $100,000 Porsche due to the fact that he is “obsessed with performance, speed and design, the traits that I apply to my responsibilities”. Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelley also drives an upscale vehicle, a 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera. He said: “You have to drive; it might as well be fun.”

On the other end of the spectrum are CEOs like Dixon Thayer, the top level executive of health care facilities operator I-Trax. Thayer drives an ‘86 F-250 pickup, the worth of which is estimated to be at around $2,000. Jimmy Wales, the founder of giant online encyclopedia Wikipedia, drives in a 2004 Hyundai Accent worth about $7,000.

The study shows that the shakers and the movers in every industry have their own taste when it comes to the vehicles that they drive. There are those who can afford expensive cars and buy them, while there are some who can likewise afford expensive vehicles but choose not buy them.

Anthony Fontanelle is a 35-year-old automotive buff who grew up in the Windy City. He does freelance work for an automotive magazine when he is not busy customizing cars in his shop.
