What do you think about the new features,
Do you think its better, worse, ??????

DETROIT – So you think junior is a little too lead-footed when he drives the family car? Starting next year, Ford Motor Co. will give you the power to do something about it.

The company will roll out a new feature on many 2010 models that can limit teen drivers to 80 mph, using a computer chip in the key.

Parents also have the option of programming the teen’s key to limit the audio system’s volume, and to sound continuous alerts if the driver doesn’t wear a seat belt.

“Our message to parents is, hey, we are providing you some conditions to give your new drivers that may allow you to feel a little more comfortable in giving them the car more often,” said Jim Buczkowski, Ford’s director of electronic and electrical systems engineering.

The feature, called “MyKey,” will be standard on an unspecified number of Ford models when the 2010 cars and trucks come out late next summer. The feature will spread to the entire Ford, Lincoln and Mercury lineup as models are updated, spokesman Wes Sherwood said.

Ford arrived at the 80 mph limit even though freeway speed limits are lower in most states because it wanted to leave a margin in case an unusual situation arises, Buczkowski said. In some states, freeway speed limits are above 70 mph, Sherwood said.

“Just lopping it off at exactly 70 mph was felt to be too limiting,” Buczkowski said.

The company already uses computer chips in its keys to prevent thefts. The car won’t start unless it recognizes the chip in the key.

“It’s making use of existing technology, and through the magic of software, we’re able to build features on top of the features we already have,” Buczkowski said.

In addition to speed limits, MyKey also will limit the volume of the audio system, and it will sound a six-second chime every minute if seat belts are not fastened. The chime sounds for adult drivers, too, but ends after five minutes to avoid annoying adults who adamantly don’t want to wear seat belts, Buczkowski said.

Parents also have the option of having the car sound a chime if the teen exceeds 45, 55 or 65 mph.

The feature will debut on the 2010 Focus compact car and quickly move to other company models as a standard feature, the company said.

Ford said its market research shows 75 percent of parents like the speed and audio limits, but as you might expect, 67 percent of teens don’t like them.

Danisha Williams, a 16-year-old senior at Southfield-Lathrup High School in suburban Detroit, said she’s against the idea.

“I wouldn’t want my parents to have that much control over how I’m driving,” she said. “If your parents are holding your hand, you’re never going to learn.”

Brittany Hawthorne, 17, another Southfield-Lathrup senior, said there may be emergency situations where she’d have to drive more than 80, possibly to accelerate to avoid a crash.

Ford’s research shows that parents would be more likely to let teens use their vehicles with the system, Sherwood said, and if it gets them the car more often, the number of teens objecting drops by nearly half.

A top official from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a research group funded by the auto insurance industry that is pushing to raise the minimum driving age to 17 or 18, found the key intriguing and said she was not aware of any other manufacturer offering such a feature. IIHS says car crashes are the leading cause of death among teenagers.

“Research we’ve done has shown that speeding is a major factor in teen crashes, especially novice teen drivers,” said Anne McCartt, the institute’s senior vice president for research. “So I think a system that tries to correct the speeding behavior has the potential to improve safety.”

More than 5,000 U.S. teens die each year in car crashes. The rate of crashes, fatal and nonfatal, per mile driven for 16-year-old drivers is almost 10 times the rate for drivers ages 30 to 59, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Several U.S. auto insurers have begun offering in-car cameras or global positioning equipment to help parents monitor their teens’ driving behavior, in the hope of reducing the number of crashes.

In 2005, as part of our divorce agreement, my ex and I decided to keep the same auto insurance but under separate policies. We had been with this company for years. My policy was on auto pay meaning that the payments were taken directly from my account. He walked in to pay his.

About 6 months after the divorce, I was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and was told I was driving an uninsured vehicle. Without insurance, my registration was also invalid. Both tickets totaled 1K. My car was taken into impound. I checked and found the officer was correct. On good terms with my ex, I told him what happened. He said for the past 6 months, each time he went in to make a payment, the girl HIS was already paid.

Realizing what had happened. They were applying my payments to his automobile. I was furious. I notified the agent who initially did not want to accept blame, but since the payments were automatic and my account number was on each payment they took, they were responsible. The error was compounded by the fact that the cancellation notice went to HIS address (how dumb was that!) So I had no way of knowing that I was cancelled. I was without a car for 2 weeks and lost my job. After much haggling and many sleepless nights of wondering what to do without a job or a car, the insurance company finally admitted blame, paid the impound fees of $1,250.00. The agent also said they would handle the 2 tickets totaling 1K.

FAST FORWARD TO 2010
in my state, the county did a scofflaw sweep and I was summoned to court with over 5 thousand other delinquent drivers to address unpaid tickets. The order was come to court by April 30th or be arrested. Realizing this had to be a mistake, but fearful of the law, I stood in line for over 5 hours in blazing heat, then sat in court another 5 hours waiting for my day in court.

I was immediately threatened with arrest because the 2 tickets were not paid. Up to that moment, I had no idea the insurance company had not paid the 2 tickets. This time, not only was my insurance and registration cancelled, my license was suspended due to the age of the infraction (5 years). In front of the judge, I called the agents’ office only to be told by the secretary that they had no intention to pay the ticket. Paying to get the car out of impound was enough. When the judge heard this she was shocked and let me off with a promise to pay in 5 days. She made me promise not to drive. With no way to get home but drive, I took a chance, and was pulled over. The officer informed me that due to the vast number of outstanding cases, tags bearing our county name would be targeted for a while (talk about a police state!). I showed him my documents from the court and headed home.

This is a nightmare. Would I have a case if I filed suit against my insurance company for failing in their fiduciary responsibility to a 16 year client in good standing? By the way this company is one of the largest in the country.

When it comes to driving on the roads of Canada everyone needs to hold a certain amount of car insurance. It is vital to receive a car insurance quote for new driver in Canada for a number of reasons. Check out these top advantages of insurance quotes and car insurance coverage that anyone can receive!

If you do not want to get into any trouble with the law then you will need to carry around car insurance. Canada government has set up a number of requirements that are required for all new drivers. Make sure that you know which requirements that you need to meet so that you can start driving on the roads immediately.

In order to save as much money as possible and get the right coverage for our car and budget, you will need to start the quote process. Take the time to get online and find out who your major competitors are. From there you can apply with each of them to start the comparison price and have all of your initial questions asked.

Getting a car insurance quote for new driver in Canada will also plug you into cheap premiums. Every company that you talk to will give you a 6 month premium that is comes with a couple different payment options. You can pay the premium up front and have coverage for a solid 6 months, or you can pay on a monthly basis. Make sure to go with what you can afford at one time.

Those drivers with bad credit need to use quotes in order to save money on their overall down payment. Look for a company that does not ask for a lot of money and still gives you a good amount of insurance. If you have a pristine driving record, you should be able to save a lot of money despite what your credit report says.

Look into other features that you can receive with your coverage policy. When you look over a car insurance quote for new driver in Canada find out about rental car coverage and even medical expenses. In the event of an accident you will still be able to get around town and get all of your work done while your damaged car is being fixed up.

Many drivers think they can do without buying an extended auto repair warranty. After all, every state in the U.S. requires that you purchase some kind of car insurance coverage, so why not rely on that? Purchasing just this required insurance can be a burden for some drivers, such as those with bad driving records, or those who have a low income.

For these drivers, the temptation to not get any further coverage may be especially strong. However, while it might be true that for a few drivers it is probably not worth the extra expense to purchase such a warranty, it makes sense for most to make this investment. It is all about peace of mind and not wanting to be shocked by a car repair bill out of the blue.

You certainly need to do research when looking for an auto repair warranty. There are many companies on the market and you must be sure of the reputation of the company before making a decision. Checking the online Better Business Bureau is a good start.

One of the main reasons to get an extended auto repair warranty is to cover repair costs for problems that are not caused by accidents. Accidents are rare, and most repairs are for things that wear out as your car ages. For example, you may need to replace your alternator, or a battery, or get new brake pads. Unless you have a super-reliable and brand new car that is unlikely to need frequent repairs, you will probably save money in the long run by purchasing a warranty, and you will certainly gain more peace of mind.

Cars are using more sophisticated technology these days, and the more options a car has, the more likely it is that something will break. Most modern cars have a long list of available options, such as heated seats, traction control, and power windows while minivans and SUVs include many more. Having a lot of these options is nice, but it does make your average repair cost increase significantly. For example, fixing a seat heater can cost $300 or more. So the more options you have, the more sense it makes to get an extended warranty.

You should definitely consider an extended auto repair warranty if you have a car whose parts are expensive. Find out if your car is one of these. Cars with expensive parts include most luxury cars such as Lexus and Cadillac and some non-luxury models such as Volkswagen and Acura.

The main approach for all purchasers is to do their own research. It is possible to get free no obligation quotes for an auto repair warranty to help with research and make sure no money is wasted.

If you by an aftermarket auto repair warranty rather than one offered by the manufacturer, it will be likely to be less expensive. Other ways to lower the cost include agreeing to a maintenance schedule, and making the deductible higher. If you do some careful comparison shopping, a 36-month auto repair warranty can end up costing you as little as $15 per month.

Every now and then, there?s a high chance that your delivery work might take you over the waters into Europe. If and when you do cross the channel, there are a few rules of the road that are well worth remembering.

Left is Right and Right is Left

The first rule of doing delivery work in Europe is one that you are hardly likely to forget, particularly as the areas around the ferry ports tend to be littered with signposts pointing it out. However, driving on the opposite side of the road than you?re used to can certainly take a while to get your head around. In particular, you might find yourself getting a little confused the first few times you go round a roundabout, or when you use a slip-road going on or off the motorway. Keep your head and the other vehicles on the road will keep you on the right side of the road (but not literally.)

Priority on the Right

In Britain, when pulling out from a side road we have to wait until the road is clear in both directions. However the rules are slightly different in Europe. Remember when you?re doing delivery work across the waters that unless there is a road sign stating otherwise, you are obliged to give way to any traffic approaching from the right, even if they are pulling out from a seemingly very minor road. Keep an eye out for this, or you might get a nasty shock as someone pulls out in front of you. However, be sure to take care when turning out of side roads yourself, in case of people less clued up about driving on the continent than you.

Check Your Speed

There are two things to remember about speed limits in Europe. Firstly, when you see a sign for 130 on the motorway, you might just put your foot down. But bear in mind that speed limits are in fact shown in kilometres per hour, rather than miles per hour. So don?t be in too much of a hurry to get your delivery work done or you might just wind up with a speeding ticket. Secondly, it?s important to remember that within Europe, there are varying speed limits according to the weather conditions. For example, when it rains in France, the motorway speed limit goes down from 130 km/h to 110 km/h, whilst on dual carriageways and roads with central reservations, the speed limit changes from 110 km/h to 100 km/h. It is worth making a note of these changes and keeping them to hand, just in case the heavens decide to open whilst you?re doing your delivery work.

Choose Your Dates

It pays to be aware of restrictions on driving on certain days in Europe. These can change from country to country, though France, Spain and Italy all restrict vehicles with a gross weight greater than 7.5 tonnes from the roads on Sundays and public holidays. So check the calendar before you set out or you might just find that your delivery work is delayed until Monday morning.

If you?re planning to take your delivery work across the waters to Europe, its well worth avoiding accidents and mishaps by doing your homework before you get in the cab. Though differences between the rules of the road in various parts of Europe may only be subtle, not knowing them can certainly hold up and hinder your deliveries.

Rolls-Royce are renown the worldwide for providing luxury cars to the wealthy and the famous. Eddie Murphy, Puff Daddy, David Beckham and ?Lord of the Dance? Michael Flatley amongst others are well known owners of these prestigious cars. Lennon has his Rolls painted in psychedelic whirls and the Sultan of Brunei had some of his 5,000 Rolls-Royces covered in golden bodywork. All of these are surely pleasing names for the famous car company to be linked with, be it their modern coupes or their vintage used Roll-Royce models from the 60s and 70s.

However, there is one name that I?m sure Rolls-Royce do not cherish as much as the others. That is the name of Robert Mugabe the Zimbabwean President. He is regularly seen parading in front of his starving nation in his vintage models, decked out in the highest luxury. Of course, we are all aware that Rolls-Royce are the pinnacle of motoring comfort and style ? and their excellence is always admired and revered. Those who dream of fame and wealth, also dream of owning the best cars available. However, leading a nation in economic collapse and with a population starving, driving about in a glimmering Rolls-Royce perhaps isn?t the best example to set.

I am not saying that for a second Mugabe?s biggest crime is flaunting his automotive taste and wealth. We all know that he is far worse than that. I just wonder how Rolls-Royce address such a scenario: being linked to one of the most despised men on the planet. It is like Hitler and his Mercedes-Benz ? a very tricky personality to distance yourself from. ?Drive the new Mercedes-Benz M Class ? the car for every psychotic dictator. Admire your genocide in style!?

Another infamous face that could threaten Rolls-Royce?s reputation, and ruin their credibility is that of Jason Kay. Not familiar? Remember that band Jamiroquai who had such songs as ?Cosmic Girl? and ?Virtual Insanity?? Well their lead singer, the one with the long hear and obsession with hats that look like stalactites, is Jason Kay. He is a self confessed petrol-head and leader of the Top Gear ?Star in a Reasonably Priced Car? and a full scale nit. I think one of his annoying traits is that I begrudge any man who has written such awful songs the luxury of a Rolls-Royce.

I guess my point is that for every worthy celebrity spotted in a Roll-Royce there is another not so worthy keeping the balance. And it is these people holding Rolls-Royce back from their old status as the car you can only dream about. They used to be a car for the elite, the ultimate. Part of that mystic and charm has faded, when you see Alan Sugar, a man who invented the world?s worst computers, in one. It seems that all I have to do to get my hands on one is commit terrible human rights violations like Mr Mugabe. Or flog dodgy computers. Or pen possibly the most diabolic pop songs on this earth.

Imagine it is a perfect sunny Saturday. Imagine you are off to the Belfry for a few rounds with Binky and his business associates. Imagine you have to impress Binky and his fellows to secure that important deal in Saffron Walden. Imagine the perfect car to arrive in. It would have to be a vintage used Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow mark one 1973 model. Binky would arrive in his obvious Bentley and immediately you?d have impressed. The associates would note the aesthetic quality of such a fine, classic motor vehicle, while they would look back over their shoulders with contempt at the characterless Bentley.

Out on the course you would tell anecdotes in between holes, like the one of how you and Hugh Laurie got off your tits and played Scrabble for ten hours non-stop, or the one time you met Richard Branson at a function and you punched him straight in his face. They?d like that one. Inevitably you?d win the round with a record score and return to the club house to back slaps and the deal sealed.

Now imagine it is a Saturday. Now imagine you are off to the same club to meet Binky and the same business men to secure the same development deal in Saffron Walden. But, do not imagine you have the beautiful, charismatic, used Rolls-Royce ?73 Silver Shadow. Imagine you arrive in a Bentley Continental Gtc Convertible, in all its slick, smarmy, sunglass-wearing-driver-even-though-it?s-winter shame. Binky would arrive at the Belfry in the Rolls-Royce holding all the attention of the envious business partners whilst you bumble through half arsed tales of public school cricket matches and how Richard Branson spilt Krug Clos du Mesnil all over you, humiliating you in front of all of the Sex Pistols. You would hit bogeys hole after hole and finish with a disastrous score and refused entry into the member?s bar. The deal would be lost and Saffron Walden, instead of having a new Spa Hotel with the special wedding lodge, would have the new ASDA Galactic superstore/international airport. All of this just because you didn?t arrive in the damned Rolls-Royce.

Now I am not saying that driving a Rolls-Royce goes hand in hand with success, but I am saying driving a Bentley definitely doesn?t. There are two types of success and wealth: the Bentley type which is better suited to the Simon Cowells of the planet who can barely pull a pair of trousers on without asphyxiation and the Rolls-Royce brand. The Rolls-Royce brand is for those with more dignity and a sense of character. It is for the John Thaws and the fuggy old types who weave stories of parties with Ted Hughes and games of squash with Ian Carmichael.

I don?t wish to appear rather archaic, and attacking on those with ?new wealth.? Far from it ? if I had a million pounds I?d be whizzing around in a Jaguar in open collared suits with my Jay-Z album blaring out over the speakers. But only one the days when I am not at the golf club with that bloody Binky!

The seemingly impossible has happened. Gordon Brown hasn?t been voted GQ Man of the Year and no Nick Griffin hasn?t had a cameo in a P-Diddy video: I have found a 1980s used Rolls-Royce I find absolutely fantastic. It is Rolls-Royce Corniche 6.8 Convertible Series 2 from ?81 and it is a classic. It begs to be driven down sunny British country lanes, with the summer breeze rolling through the floppy hair of its perfect driver, Hugh Grant. The seats beg for the feel of cr?me trousers and the pedals long to be pushed down by boating shoes ? probably worn without socks.

It is (like its ideal driver Mr Grant) a glorious stereotype of all things a Rolls-Royce is. It comes in a colour known as ?light peacock blue? ? truly, truly a Rolls-Royce description. The seats are wrapped in blue savoy velvet and the walnut veneer comes straight from the drawing rooms of stately homes.

There are some interior flaws ? the roof when up looks like the underside of a damp canvas and I can imagine with rain hammering down, it could possibly drive Hugh Grant to insanity. Mr Grant may also flap about in his usual bumbling English voice about the automatic transmission too. As for the exterior I can really see nothing wrong. Unlike most of the used Rolls-Royce models I have witnessed from the 80s, the Corniche has a sweeping quality. It seems more suited to the decades before, alongside the Silver Shadows of the ?60s.

The question is why would Mr Grant drive this car instead of the newer models of the noughties? The answer is rather simple. Would Four Weddings have its stuffy British romantic charm if Andie McDowell had been married on an exotic beach, bedecked in a beach gown and being whisked off to the hotel in a helicopter on the arm of some diamond encrusted footballer? No, of course not. To preserve a sense of Britishness and history and identity is the reason why people still drive these old models. They are harder to come by, less slick and efficient as the modern takes but they are linked to a rather idyllic sense of country life ? as are canal boat holidays and village fetes. They aren?t trans-Atlantic cruises or huge music festivals, but we still cherish them because they are ours.

So, at long last I am pleased to announce that I have finally discovered a Rolls-Royce from the 1980s that doesn?t make me want to hurl out of embarrassment. Who knows, maybe one time in the future you may see me driving around in a sleek Phantom with a bottle of magnum on the backseat. Only if I have the money, and the loss of self. Until then, I will happily settle for a Corniche convertible and being whisked down rural lanes and put up in fine hotels by that loveable nit Mr Hugh Grant. I don?t think there could be anything more archetypically British ? except maybe a bulldog in a union jack hat and bowtie combination. But you won?t see them in the films.

If you are going to buy a car and drive it you are going to want to buy an auto warranty. Getting an extended car warranty is more important than most people realize. You can buy an auto warranty for your vehicle even if it is used so there should never be an excuse. This coverage is going to ensure that if something happens to your car, you are going to be covered.

An extended vehicle warranty will not cover you if you get in an accident but if something happens to one of the parts on your car such as the shocks or struts, you can get it fixed free of charge because you are under warranty. It is all about peace of mind knowing that important parts of your vehicle are covered and you are not going to receive a large repair bill.

If you want to buy an auto warranty, the first step is to get a car warranty quote. You can get these for free from the different companies you are interested in. You can also go online and make it really easy by going through a comparison site that is going to do all the work for you. All you have to do is enter in some details about the car including the make and model.

After this you will be shown all your top results for where you could buy auto warranty for the best price. You can choose to get an extended vehicle warranty which is going to last you longer and especially if you are going to buy a brand new car you will want to opt for the extended warranty option. Although you will be paying more to begin with it is going to come in really handy if down the road you need a new part for your car.

There are a number of different types of extended car warranty offering a range of protection to suit many different situations. A bumper to bumper cover for instance is very comprehensive and another popular extended warranty is a powertrain warranty that will cover the main aspects of the engine and the elements powering the vehicle. The main aim at all times is to provide important cover for car repair bills and stop any surprise expenditures happening out of the blue.

This warranty will be a contract between you and your service provider. This is not a form of insurance and people need to realize that because some get confused. Depending on which warranty you buy, the entire cost of parts may not be covered but at least it will help to make things that much more affordable for you if you do need to fix or replace a part for your car.

Going to buy an auto warranty is so important and will help you to feel more relaxed and at ease while you are driving. This way you know you are not going to be out of pocket too much money if something does happen to your vehicle.
